But in most shelters, “sanitary ware or any kind of period ephemera is scarce,” Vice reported earlier this year. Three women have a plan to fix that.

Today is International Romani Day.
The Romani are a widely-dispersed ethnic group that lives mostly throughout Europe and the Americas. They face prejudice and bigotry in many nations, much of it government-sanctioned. They were one of the primary groups targeted for genocide by the Nazis.
Though many Americans are unaware, the word “gypsy” is a racial slur. Dressing up “as a gypsy” is not appropriate, even in a fantasy setting or for a Renaissance fair. Using the word if you are not actually Romani is not permissible.
Yesterday, a teacher at my daughter’s preschool told me that she saw two boys and a girl spinning the knobs of a play oven. Boy #1 says: “I’m a pilot! I’m flying a plane.’ Boy #2 says: “Me too!” The girl is quiet, so the teacher says to her: “What about you, are you a pilot?” The 3 year old girl replies: “I can’t be a pilot. I’m a pilot’s wife.”
So what do you think has happened in this little girl’s short life to make her believe it’s more likely that she would be a pilot’s wife than a pilot?

the reason oppressed groups say “___ are awful” instead of “some ___ are awful” is because including the word “some” allows individuals of that group to detach themselves from the problem and shuck the blame off and say “well they arent really talking about me so i can ignore their opinions”, whereas stating that an entire group of oppressors is awful makes the individual think whether or not theyre included in the awfulness of that group and makes them consider their actions so thats why people say “men are awful” or “white people are awful” and if you take it personally you’re getting angry at the wrong people
#if you take it personally you’re probably part of the problem
