Looks like all of those raucous protests are paying off. After many criticized #BlackLivesMatter protesters for preventing Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders from speaking at a rally in Seattle, the Vermont Senator released a sweeping racial justice plan. Now, he’s agreed to meet with activists to talk about it.
When Michael Brown was gunned down by a police officer in Ferguson, DeRay Mckesson became one of the most notable faces of the movement for justice. Alongside Johnetta Elzie, Mckesson live-tweeted protests, broadcasted video, and offered a perspective the mainstream media couldn’t. Now, he’s got the ear of a popular presidential candidate.
While many continue to question the tactics of some protesters, it’s hard to deny their message is being heard.
In case you missed the reason why Bernie Sanders and other presidential candidates were interrupted by Black Lives Matters activists, head to this post.
It give greater surveillance power to even more government agencies, and the ability for government agencies to share greater information with each other.
It gives the police greater ability to arrest without warrants (arresting “on suspicion”).
It allows people to be charged and jailed for the loosely-defined act of “promoting terrorism” (regardless of any actual terrorist activity), raising questions about freedom of speech.
It makes becoming a citizen a longer and and more expensive process.
It outlines conditions in which the government can revoke a person’s citizenship, mostly related to terrorism, spying, or treason (even if not convicted in Canada). This affects dual citizens and not born Canadians, and therefore essentially creates two-tier, “second-class” citizenship. Canadians who are eligible for dual citizenship (by having parents from another country) are affected by this as well.
The Canadian Senate is a legislative body that is appointed by the prime minister. They are not elected by the public, and therefore not accountable to constituents. Members of the Senate are embroiled in scandal, from invalid expense claims to having sex with an underage girl.
Save Our Kids (8/8/15):Christian Taylor, a 19-year old college football player was gunned down by police early Friday morning in Arlington, TX. Christian crashed his vehicle into a car dealership. Police claim he was trying to rob it. How and why a kid with his own new car and a promising college career, would try to single-handedly rob a car showroom by crashing into it, I couldn’t tell you (reeks of bullshit/this ain’t Fast & Furious). He was unarmed. Police will always prioritize property over our lives. Don’t be shocked if/when video gets released later contradicting the killer cop’s story though.
34% - Birth control (that’s where we prevent unintended pregnancies, valiant “pro-life” folks)
15% - Cancer screenings/prevention
9% - General women’s health and prenatal services
3% - Abortion (which receives ZERO government funding)
1% - Other health services (including adoption referrals and family practice services)
When someone votes to defund Planned Parenthood, they’re not actually defunding abortion. They’re fighting to end affordable healthcare for women across the board.
A gunman opened fire Thursday night in a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, killing two people and himself. The shooter, identified on Friday as John Russel Houser, 59, was described by police as a “drifter” who was living in a motel.
As moviegoers settled in for the comedy “Trainwreck,” John Russell Houser stood up and fired 13 shots using a .40-caliber handgun, police said. Authorities also said that Houser had parked his car near the theater’s exit, so that he could get a quit escape. But when he reportedly tried to leave with others in the theater who were trying to flee, and he saw police responding, he turned into the crowd and shot himself
Police identified the two victims as 21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year-old Jillian Johnson. Nine other people were wounded. Both are being hailed as heroes for saving their friends.
Teachers Jena Meaux and Ali Martin survived the attack, but both reportedly suffered gunshot wounds. Gov. Bobby Jindal says one of the women leaped in front of the other in an effort to protect her – and that the second woman then activated a fire alarm in the theater.
“The sound of that alarm caused an evacuation of the rest of the movie theater,” The Times-Picayune reports, citing a witness who was at another movie showing in the theater.
Jindal described what happened:
“One teacher literally jumping over her friend, potentially saving her life. Second teacher felt like that bullet would have hit her in the head if her friend hadn’t jumped on her. The second teacher was shot anyway, in the leg — had the presence of mind to pull that fire alarm.”
Several news stations are already pinning the “mental illness” and “lone wolf” narrative on this terrorist.
Police are still looking for a motive for the shooter, but so far no futher details have surfaced.
Police are claiming that Sandra took the trash bag out and tied it to the partition on her shower, and then used it to hang herself with.
Problems with this explanation:
Trash bags/cans are not allowed in jail cells because any lose items are considered a danger to the inmates. If it’s not bolted down to the floor, it’s basically not allowed in a cell
If the police are right and the picture was “taken right after the body was found with no changes made to the scene” then why did they replace the trash bag?
The bag she allegedly used was a “black industrial sized” trash bag, which was not only unlike the white one shown above, but it wouldn’t have been strong enough to hold up her body
The partition she “hung herself” from is shorter than her. Sandra was a little over 6 ft, and the partition was about 5 ft.
There were no lacerations or bruises on her neck consistent with a hanging.
During a routine traffic stop on Sunday night, white University of Cincinnati campus police officer Ray Tensing shot 43-year-old black man Samuel Dubose in the head. Dubose was missing a license plate on the front of his car, according to police officials. Dubose allegedly refused to provide a drivers’ license and instead pulled out a bottle of alcohol. Their interaction then quickly escalated.
